A brand new jazz meets hip hop banger from the UK-based and Canadian born, internationally renowned trumpeter, composer, band leader, educator, broadcaster and writer, Jay Phelps.
Trumpeter Jay Phelps teams up with MC Simon Jnr for the second single off his upcoming ‘Broken Standards’ EP. Wayne Shorter’s haunting theme has been reworked and arranged to give plenty of room to rapper Simon Jnr. A fresh new artist from Birmingham, Simon delivers a message that takes the listener on a unique journey to and through the intersection of jazz and hip hop.
Jay tells us “This tune is full of energy and excitement, I can’t wait for people to hear it! A truly pandemic collaboration, Fall, like all tunes on my new EP Broken Standards, was recorded without any of the musicians in the same room at the same time, but we managed to create something special.”
Also hailing from Birmingham, Thomas Ford adds warm guitar textures and improv alongside Phelps’ trumpet as they trade lines and even doubles up on flute to deliver the melody! Also featuring Kaz Rodriguez on drums, Mike Flynn on bass and Tim Proznick on percussion.
You’ll be able to find “Fall” on Phelps’ forthcoming EP, ‘Broke Standards’, due for release soon on his own SoulEndvr Records.
